A SUCCESSFUL CONFERENCE CEASE FIRE ” TERMS TO BE DRAWN UP CHUNGKING, January 5. It is officially announced that the Government and the Communists have agreed on the procedure for ending hostilities and restoring communications in China. The agreement was reached after a 75 minutes’ conference, after which the parties agreed. General George Marshall’s presence in Chungking stronglv contributed to the success of the conference. General Chang Chun, the Governor of Szechwan Province, and General Chou Enlai will represent the Government and the Communists respectively in arranging the “ cease fire,” working with General Marshall as a committee of three.

In the meantime an all-party, nonpartisan unity conference is still scheduled to begin on January 10, when an effort will be made to settle all outstanding differences between the Government and the Communists. It is announced that China has recognised the independence of Outer Mongolia. .
