GIRL'S LEGS TORN OFF • SYDNEY, January 6. A 14-year-old girl, Valina Tegel, was killed by a shark yesterday while swimmiug in about three feet of water in Oatley Bay, Georges River (south df Sydney). The girl’s father fought the shark with his fists and feet, but she died as he brought her ashore. The girl had been in the water 45 minutes when the shark attacked her, in one bite tearing off her left leg at the hip and part of her right leg. Her father was a few feet away when he heard the girl cry, “ Dad, help me, quick.” He rushed to her and caught her as she fell. She 6aid, “ Dad, my leg’s gone.” He saw blood in the water and found the shark between his legs. He beat and kicked the shark as it swam away.
