V TRAFFIC'S BIG CLAIM NEW YORK, December 26. The death toll of the nation’s Christmas holiday - week-end approached the 300 mark, with over half of the fatalities due to traffic accidents. Fires accounted for about 50 additional victims, and other violent deaths from miscellaneous causes totalled 76. The outstanding accident was the hospital fire at Hartford, in which 16 lives were lost when a Christmas tree became ignited and set fire to a large part of the hospital. Several persons died of exposure in several States. Texas led the nation with 47 violent deaths over the holiday, including 29 traffic accidents and 15 murders.
