[By Watcher.] Acceptances for the Waikouaiti and Oamaru meetings will close at. 8 p.m. to-day. Kohara tailed off early in the Otokia Hurdles, and never threatened danger. Robert has now become a proficient jumper, and should not be long in winning over hurdles. Tire setting up of the Dunedin Jockey Club’s race card -has- been altered slightly. Space is now provided for totalisator investments, jpekey, and barrier positions.

Deficiency was well up for six furlongs in the Endeavour Handicap, and should „d° well on a short circuit;'

Peter Gazelle won in a manner suggesting other victories during the New Year racing. _ First day’s form at Wingatui was, because of the heavy track, not a reliable guide yesterday. Good Cast pulled hard in the Dunedin Cup, and it was surprising that he hung on as well as he did. . Gold Song is speedy off the mark, like his dam, Gold Bda, and with a little more race experience should soon be winning races. • Gamble' bowled along freely for about seven, furlongs in the Grand Stand Handicap, but dropped back in the straight. He stopped again yesterday. Chain sustained a clean break below the knee of her off foreleg. She was owned by D. Grant and trained by It. P. Register. . Ellon, a four-year-old mare by_ Siegfried—Enwood, was a paddock tip for the Endeavour Handicap on the first day at Wingatui, but failed to show up. She is trained by D. P. Wilson for Mr A. Chisholm. Aurora Australis came with such a good finishing run in the Dunedin Cup that if she had been better placed at the home turn must have troubled the winner.

Stagestruck has been referred to as a filly, but is a gelding. The name is inclined to be a- bit misleading as to [ sex, as. the word has • generally had a feminine applicatibn. The former Australian trainer, G. H. Gorvin, led in his first winner when Pink Clover won the Warrington Highweight. He also trained the third horse, Ruling Moment. Peter Gazelle, another winner, is also trained by Gorvin. Naught Lady got the best of the 6tart iu the Champagne Stakes. Palm Bearer was giving her a fair start- after going a furlong, and was not sent after Naughty Lady until heads were turned for home. There was a short tussle at the distance post, but Palm Bearer gradually got the upper hand and won going away. „ ‘ Western Front has proved himself one of the best seen out in hack company at the Dunedin meeting* . .He has now become ineligible for hack class, though he can. run out his entry for these races, and may have his firet race in open company in the Waikouaiti Cup. -
