“WHO GOES THERE?”
f BRASS HAT TALE (From "Our Correspondent.) (By Air Mail.) LONDON, December 15. Our much-maligned Brass Hats never mind telling a story against themselves. Brigadier A. M. IRamsden, former commander of Leeds Rifles, did so the other day in a tribute he paid to the A.T.S. _ Commending them for being “ incredibly frank,” he recalled one occasion when he was held up by an A.T.S. sentry on a gun site. It was in vain that he pointed out that he was the brigadier. His identity card was demanded as evidence of good faith. To test him the woman warrior asked him the number of the card. The brigadier had to confess' that he had never even noticed; but pointed out that she could identify him by the photograph inside. The sentry scrutinised it critically and handed it back with the murmured comment, “ It flatters you.”
