REGATTA POSTPONED
MACANDREW BAY FIXTURE • It was extremely poor, luck for the North-east Harbour Boating Club that its regatta, a revived fixture after being allowed to lapse for several years, should have to be postponed because of the impossible weather conditions. This Boxing Day aquatic event used at one time to be a very popular drawcard at Macandrew Bay, and on this occasion a strong list of" sailing, rowing, swimming, and motor boat races had been drawn up. However, it is intended to hold the regatta on Saturday, commencing at 1.30 p.m., and post entries for all events will be accepted up to 12.30 p.m. The interest taken in the regatta was indicated by the fact that several visiting yachts arrived at Macandrew Bay, and the Club Committee decided to stage a short all-comers’ race to cater for these craft and also for the sizable crowd that had assembled for the regatta. Six yachts competed under the Mark Foy system of handicapping. Ono capsized soon after the start, and two others had to withdraw owing to broken gear. Eileen (J. Chalmers) was first, off the three-minute mark, just beating Kia Ora (R. Brown), the scratch boat, by three seconds. The onlv other vacht to finish. Katringa (F. Sturmer), was well back in third place.
