CUP MEETING OPENS GOOD CAST BEATS LANCE WING DEAD HEAT IN SPRINT A sudden improvement in the weather coaxed a large holiday crowd to the first day of the Dunedin Jockey Club's Cup (Meeting at Wingatui to--1 day. The size of the attendance was reflected in the betting on the first event, the Otokia Hurdles, on -which £3.513 10s was invested. The day was warm, with intervals of bright sunshine, and the track was in excellent condition in spite of recent rain. away from the rest of the big field in the maiden event, and opened up a good lead for three furlongs until the field closed mp, Deep Harmony, Manatone, Rhine Lord, and Merry Lancer being in the first bunch. Deficiency led into the straight from Gold Song, Deep Harmony, Rhine Lord, and Rubble. Salad came from a good way back on the outer to beat Deep Harmony on the rails by a length.
