MURDERED AUSTRALIAN AIRMEN
JAP. OFFICER SENTENCED TO DEATH (Rec. 1.55 p.m.) SYDNEY, Dec. 22. Found guilty of the murder of two Australian airmen who crashed *in Northern Celebes on June 19, 1945, Lieutenant Yanomura has been sentenced to death by shooting by tha Australian court at Morotai. Yano-, mura, who is 28, and a permanent navy officer, pleaded for clemency on the grounds that he had never previously ill-treated prisoners, and he to avoid having executions in his area. He delayed the execution as long as possible on the pretext of pressure of work. It was stated that the order for the executions was given by (Baron Takasaki, commander of the naval police.
