APPLIED MATHEMATICS
CHAIR AT SYDNEY UNIVERSITY NEW ZEALANDER APPOINTED (Rec. 2 p.m.) SYDNEY. Dec 22. Dr Keith Edward Bullen, a 39-year, old New Zealander with brilliant qualifications, has been appointed to the chair of applied mathematics which was recently established by the University of Sydney. Dr Bullen obtained his M.A. degree with first-class honours ia mathematics in 1927, and subsequently was lecturer in mathematics at Auckland University College. In 1931 he proceeded to Cambridge, where he continued his studies in mathematics and gained a degree. He was senior lecturer at Auckland* University College until 1940, when he was transferred to the University of Melbourne.
