INCIDENT IN BRITISH OCCUPATION ZONE I (Roc. 8 a.m.) LONDON; Dec. 19. I An armed battle between police and 1 bandits in the British occupation zone I occurred last night, when a .police pat- | rol arrived as a gang of 10 mas leaving I a plundered farm, reports -Reuter’s 1 Hamburg correspondent. The gang- 1 sters opened fire, and the police re- | plied, killing one gangster and cap- | turing one. One policeman was 1 wounded. 1
A four-day special curfew was imposed in Luneberg after a British soldier was attacked from behind by two men armed with sticks.
British Army and civilian car drivers from yesterday must carry arms and ammunition in the streets of Berlin after 9 p.m. An armed escort must accompany women drivers. Hamburg radio reported that the Berlin police swooped on city night clubs last night and arrested 300 persons. many of whom were already “ wanted ” for a variety of offences. Large quantities of “ black market ” meat, eggs, wine, and spirits were found.
