TOWED TO PORT
DRIFTING FLYING BOAT (Itec. 10.10 a.ui.l BRISBANE, Dec. 21. 'Jlie R.A.A.F. Hying boat that was forced down at sea 40 miles south of Bundaberg was towed back to Ilundaberg last evening. The towliue broke twice during the tow. and the- rescue launch finally attached a lino to the flying boat’s tail and towed it tail first. On board the flying boat wore 36 men. mostly R.A.A.F., R.A.N.. and A.I.F long-service troops returning to their homes in southern States [The machine was forced down bv engine trouble at 2.30 p.m. on Wednesday. At 9 p.m. the flying boat,'which was anchored in a heavy sea about half a mile off shore, broke anchor and bewail to drift to sea. A rescue boat which left Bundaberg at 4 p.m. was forced to return at nightfall because of heavy weather. Two planes left Bundaberg in an attempt to drop provisions, but failed to reach the flying boat before darkness.]
