Commemorate is a stayer and looks well at present. The Raker is an unknown quantitv in this type of race, hut will be dangerous if he jumps well. Sir Saladin showed promise in .the spring over hurdles, and Sandy Cape must he due soon. Kohara and Banco may shape best of the others Commemorate, Sir Saladin, and . Salad, Merry Lancer, and Rhine Lord are the only ones with recent form. Plutocrat ,was consistent early in the season. Deep Harmony is improving, and Eudora is shaping better. Rhine Lord, Eudora, and Salad may show up. 12.30- .

Some of the ■ promoted, hacks, such . as -Don’t Regret, .Denary, Young.- Bob, ,• ’ and Wantwood -look .nicely 'placed here. The distance looks a hit short for Rahiri. and Peter Gazelle may find it a furlong too long. Sumra has struck form again, and Silverstream is a good galloper. Montezuma -unay spring a surprise. Don’t Regret, Montezuma, and Young Bob appeal most. 1.15-

This race is very open. Powys was second to Lyndall at Invercargill, with Lisheen, who won at Tapanui, third. St. Nattar lias been fourth in his last three starts. Dearo will be improved by Saturday’s race, and Derene, unlucky at Motukarara, may start favourite. Gold Spur would' be hard to beat on a firm track. The jjopular picks may be Derene, Powys, and Lisheen.

Some good performers up to a mile will be saddled up for this race. Lance Wing shaped particularly well at ißiecarton, and Royal Rae is in good form. Joy giver has been training on in pleasing style, and Great Coon won in an impressive manner at the Southland ■meeting. Aurora Australis is due for a comeback, and Night Robe was inthe picture over longer journeys at (Riccarton. Among the best fancied may be Joygiver, Great Coon, and Aurora Australis. 2.45

Naughty Lady, Stagestruck, Faites vos Jeux, and Lakhnau will find most support. The others are mostly unknown quantities. 3.30 — GRANDSTAND HANDICAP, £4OO.

As some of the runners are also engaged in the Victory Handicap, this field may look different when the starters are announced. Aurora Australis may be reserved for this race and, if so, might start favourite. First Day To-morrow Fields and Fancies (By WATCHER.) Thanks to the Dunedin Jockey Club, the sporting community of Otago will be able to indulge in the sport of kings in real earnest this Christmas. Three days’ racing at Wingatui at this time of the year has been unknown for years, and the cajrd is such an attractive one to-morrow that, even though the Cup will not be decided until. Wednesday, one can be fairly safe in predicting ■ almost as many spectators to-morrow as for the other days. The track should supply good, but not fast, going.

A number of good hacks are engaged, Tbornbridge was in the money at Ri’ccarton, and Linloch has been racing consistently. Racket and Bonnie Chela both won last Saturday and Western Front finished a good second to Delinquent in the Stonyhurst Handicap at Riccarton. Wild Ribbon hangs on well at the finish of her races, and Fuzzy Wuzzy is capable of doing better than recent form would indicate.
