FRIDAY, DECEMBER 21. (Before Mr H. W. Bundle, S.M.) THEFT of eggs.

The theft on December 15 of a crate containing 360 eggs, valued at £3, the property of Dick Nobilo, Was admitted by Victor Herbert Miller, aged 30> a labourer, \vho was appearing on remand. Chief-detective T. Y. Hall said that the accused had been detected on the evening of the theft taking the crate up a right-of-way by the Town Hall. When accosted by Detective Berry, Miller was placing the eggs in a. taxi, and he remarked that he had just “ hoisted ” the eggs and was going to sell them. The crate was taken from the rear of the Octagon Cafe, and before stealing them, Miller, who had taken liquor, but was not drunk, had asked the manager for a loan of £5. He had recently been in England as a member oif the armed forces, but was very reticent about his Army record. In. 1941 he was before- the Central Criminal Court in London and sentenced to imprisonment for robbery. The accused, who informed the magistrate that the offence in England had been committed Avhile he was in the Army, said he had not been before the court as a civilian previously. He was very drunk Avhen he took the eggs. Miller was sentenced to two weeks’ imprisonment. ANOTHER CHANCE.

William Joseph Dunn, 57, labourer, pleaded guilty to a breach of his probation, the, terms of which stipulated that he keep away from a woman with Avhom he had been living. The probation officer (Mr E. F.. Mosley) said that Dunn had been released on probation in March for a year, but despite repeated Avarnings following an adjournment of the same charge last Aveek, he had persisted in forcing his attentions on the woman, and early this morning the police had been called because of a disturbance created by him at her home. He was addicted to bad lnaguage and altogether had shown himself a very vindictive man.

The Magistrate said that Dunn had apparently been a pest to the woman, but he would be given one further chance. He avss ordered to come up -- for sentence within a year., and the Magistrate warned him that if he went near the woman again he Avould.be sentenced to a substantial term of im- , prisonment.
