PARLIAMENT’S BUSINESS
SIX BILLS PASSED YESTERDAY ALL-YEAR-ROUND DAYLIGHT SAVING (Special.) WELLINGTON, Nov. 8. • Good progress was made by the House of Representatives last evening, when six Bills -were put through their remaining stages and passed. After some discussion on the Short Title, the Social Security Amendment Bill was disposed of, and there followed in fairly quick succession the Pensions', Amendment (Bill (bringing war pensions into line with the social security benefit increase), the Greymoutli Harbour Board Amendment BUI, the Standard Time Bill (preserving the'half-hour of daylight saving all the year round), the Land Transfer (Foreign Governments) Bill, and the Evidence Amendment Bill _ (providing for the admission of certain evidence previously held inadmissible). Business in the House yesterday afternoon was devoted to discussion oh Ministerial replies to questions, particularly that concerning the recent Auckland waterfront trouble; and some time was devoted to consideration of the committee report on a petition asking that a commission should consider how best to improve transport across Auckland Harbour, _ The committee urged that the petition should have the Government’s most favourable consideration. .
Before the House adjourned at 10.30 p.m.. the Prime Minister said that local Bills would be taken tins afternoon, and an any remaining time other Government measures on the Order Paper could be dealt with. The second reading debate on the JBank of New Zealand Bill would start at 7.30 p.m.
