PLANTATION DESTROYED
FIRE SWEEPS RESERVE (P.A.) WHANGAREI, Nov. 7. Sparks from a fire which a resident started in order to clean up his property set alight a portion of the Parahaki reserve yesterday afternoon. Despite the efforts of fire-fighters the flames spread along a ridge and in the valleys until early this 'morning when it was found, that 200 acres had been swept. The biggest part of the damage was done to scrub-covered land, but some 10,000 young kauris which were making good progress were destroyed. But for the absence of wind a much larger area, including a big pine plantation on'the further side of Parfchaki would have been jeopardised.
