CITY TREASURER
MR HENDERSON'S RETIREMENT GUEST OF COUNCIL STAFFS Mr H. H. Henderson, who has retired from the position of city treasurer, was entertained at afternoon tea in the Municipal Chambers by the heads of corporation departments. The town clerk (Mr R. A. Johnston) referred to the outstanding service given to the city by Mr Henderson, who, he said, was an ideal officer for the position of city treasurer. Mr Johnston spoke of the excellent relations that had existed between the heads of departments and the treasurer throughout Mr Henderson's long period of service. The town clerk also directed attention to some of the outstanding matters which had engaged the attention of Mr Henderson, mentioning particularlv the institution of the city renewal funds, the City Insurance Fund, the Superannuation Fund, and the conversion loan operation. In all these very important transactions in the affairs of the city, Mr Johnston said, Mr Henderson had taken a leading part, and his intimate knowledge of finance'and the financial affairs of the city generally had been of the greatest assistance to the council and of value to the city as a whole. . The heads of the respective departments endorsed the town clerk's remarks, after which Mr Johnston made a presentation to Mr Henderson and extended the best wishes of those present to both Mr and Mrs Henderson for their (future happiness and prosperity. Mr Henderson, in his reply, referred! to most of the outstanding matters which had engaged his attention during his period of office, and to the valuable co-operation he had always enjoyedi from the heads of departments and members of the staff. Subsequently, the members of the corporation staffs generally entertained Mr and Mrs Henderson at a social evening in the Municipal Chambers. The town clerk (Mr Johnston) presided. A programme of music, elocutionary, and other items, was presented, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all present. The town clerk and members of the stuff took the opportunity of expressing their good wishes to Mr and Mrs Henderson and their regret that their long and pleasant association with him was about to come to a close. A presentation was made to Mr Henderson, who briefly replied.
