RICCARTON TRIALS

RACKET'S BRILLIANT WORK-OUT (Special.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 6. The trial grass track was open at Riccarton to-day, but because of its hard surface most of the galloping before the breakfast interval was executed on the plough, which had been liberally watered overnight. All the grass tracks have become very firm, and a fall of rain would he appreciated by most trainers. On the plough, Erratum ran five furlongs in 1.3, and his stable mater, Fearless, went over the same ground in 1.2 2-5. % Koa Manu followed in 1.3, and Foreign Ways and Pandosto took 1.4. Kernel and Bailey Bridge recorded 1.3. The latter is by Kinnoull from Stourbridge Fair, and is trained by R. Register for Mr D. Grant. Scotch Tweed ran five furlong 6 in 1.2 3-5, and Nurnie executed a similar task in 1.3 1-5. The best gallop over six furlongs was credited to Racket, who beat Chain in 1.152-5, the first three in 36 3-5. Racket is a much improved filly. John o' London was half a length in front of Authentic at the end of sis -.furlongs in 1.17 2-5. the first three in 38 3-5.. Other six furlong gallops included: Thornbridge, 1.18: Irish Note. 1.17 1-5 ; Olga's Choice, 1.17; Avonbridge was in front of Double Cross in 1.17; Ration,

Competitor galloped seven furlongs in 1.29 4-5, the first four in 51 1-5. Major Argosy, with his trainer in the saddle, ran over seven ifnrlongs in 1.33 2-5. Benbecula finished clear o'f Montezuma at the conclusion of nine furlongs in 1.55 4-5, the first four taking 49 1-5 and the last four 54. Benbecula's work was very impressive. Burberry showed his usual smartness by sprinting half a mile in 48 1-5. the last three in 35 3-5. On the grass Golden Souvenir and Silver Sal were companions over seven furlongs in 1.35. The former was well bandaged behind, but moved quite freely. Privilege and Fiora 6nrinted half a mile in 50 1-5, and Full Moon and Cloud Song followed in 51 2-5. Vafort strode over a mile in 1.43 3-5, and his stable mate, Piccolo, was let off with an easy six furlongs, the last four taking 53.. Beau Cheval is at present on the easy list. A veterinary examination has revealed that he has been suffering from a Tuptured side muscle, which has probably been the cause of his boring tactics "in recent races. He is now under treatment, and is expected to be soon back in serious work.
