SIGNAL OFFICER SINGED
STRAW IN STALL ALIGHT (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, Nov. 5. The New Zealand Cun favourite, Signal'Officer, was involved in a fire at R. E. McLellan’s stable at Invercargill on Sunday afternoon, but the incident was not attended by any serious consequences. Signal Officer was in his box early in the afternoon, when smoke was noticed emanating from his stall. Tt was discovered that straw on the floor of the loosebox was on fire. The horse was taken from the box without any trouble, but not before he was badly singed, particularly about the legs. The fire was extinguished ■by a bucket pump, and the stables .were not damaged. Signal Officer worked freely at Invercargill yesterday. He shows signs of the singeing, but is not blistered. His trainer. R. E. McLellan, considers he is none the worse for the mishap.
