ST. KILDA AFFAIRS
BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING The St. Kilda Borough Council met last night. The . Mayor, Mr N. D. Anderson, presided and those present were Crs J. C. Cherry, J. W„ Pearson, A. H. Finnic, E. Longworth, J. H. Hinton, P. J. B. Rendel, D. Telfer, and D. J. Simpson. The financial statement showed that after the payment of account® amounting to £235 6s 6d the debit balance stood at £2,224 17s. , , , Cr Cherry said that he had been asked by certain! residents 'of the borough why the council did. not supply free rat poison. Cr. Pearson stated that poison was available from the Dunedin City Council at a small charge 1 . Cr Longworth reported on the discussions which had taken place at the recent South Island Local Bodies’ Conference on the subject of the Otago centennial celehratipns. It was his opinion that the borough should combine with the City Council in its arrangements and not take independent action as some outside bodies were plan- , ning to do. A letter from the. Otago Centennial Association was received. In connection with the Municipal Conference, to be held in Christchurch in 1946, Cr Longworth said ,he would like see a “ hardy annual ” forwarded as a remit. This was the. council’s obligation to rebate half the rates on the vacant Onslow House property each year. A Supreme Court decision had been given on the matter, said. Cr Longworth. but the position was most unsatisfactory, and he moved that a remit in protest be tabled at the* forthcoming conference.—The motion was earned*
