MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL
The mayor (Mr W. P. Hartstonge) presided over the-monthly meeting of the Mosgiel Borough Council last night. There was a full attendance of councillors.
The approval of the council to a small subdivision in Quarry road was asked for by Messrs N. and E. S. Paterson and approved. A letter was read from the Otago Centennial Association regarding the fitting celebration of the centenary of Otago.—Consideration was deferred till the February meeting.
The engineer was instructed to prepare specifications and to call for tenders for the formation of Stuart street'' and the unformed portion of Argyle street. Tho Clerk reported that four building permits had been issued since the last meeting of the council, the value of the work involved being £424. The Mayor and the town clerk were appointed'to represent the council at tlie 1946 Municipal Conference to bo held in Christchurch next March. The Taieri Cricket Club was granted the use of the Recreation Ground for the cricket season. The council declined an application for permission to hold a midnight dance in the Coronation Hall during the Christmas season. Permission was granted for the screening of pictures in the Coronation Hall on Christmas Day, subject to the picture being first approved by the chairman. Permission was granted for the holding of school sports in the Recreation Ground on Friday. The New Zealand Railways, Dunedin. in reply to the council’s request, wrote declining to run the 7.,15 p.m. train Dunedin to Mosgiel earlier on Saturdays.
