GALL FOR DISSOLUTION
ELECTORS NOT CONSULTED
FARMERS’ QUICK PROTEST
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 19. At a meeting called to form a branch of the Federated Farmers'for the Makakara-Hutt district strong views were expressed on the Bill to abolish the country quota. It was decided to telegraph Messrs Grigg and Mulholland, the leaders of the Skeepowners’ Federation, and the Fanners’ Union, a resolution expressing the strongest objection to the unconstitutional action of the Government in introducing a measure dealing with constitutional questions which had not been placed as an issue before the electors in a general election. The resolution called on the leaders of farmers’organisations to communicate with the GovernorGeneral, asking him to dissolve Parliament so that proper constitutional steps are taken in conformity with the British practice to have the issue decided by the electors under the present law, and it calls on the farmers in the rest of the Dominion to support this proposal actively.
