U.S. MINISTER’S FAREWELL MESSAGE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 19. The following message was' issued yesterday afternoon by the retiring . United 'States Minister to New Zea- ■ • landi, Mr K. S. Patton, who is leaving Wellington by road for Auckland to- -• day, on the first leg of his journey to - Washington. With Mrs Patton, he ia to leave Auckland by air on Monday morning. “ On the eve of my departure from New Zealand I look back over 14 months of happy service and pleasant association with the officials and people of the Dominion, whose hospitality and friendliness are proverbial. There have been problems to face, but I have always found members of the Government sympathetic and helpful. It is. * therefore, with a feeling of sincere regret that I leave for a new field: of effort, and with the earnest hope it will not be a difficult task for my successor to achieve a solution of” two ~ matters in which I have been interested —the elimination of dual taxation-and the extension of the most favourable foreign nation treatment for my country.” ■ J
