SHARE MARKET. The market retained its recent strength this morning, but business fell away to two late transactions.' Bank of New SSealands eased fractionally to between 50s 2d-50s Bd, | but the Long D s remained in demand at 30s. Gear Meats were firm at 27s 9d-295, while Southland Frozen ords. had better buyers at 58s, sellers asking 61s. Breweries also closed firm, with Dominions sought at 55s 3d. Among Australian industrials, British Tobaccos were wanted at 49s 6d, and Broken Hill Proprietaries ,at 46s 6d, with no holders quoting. TSie payment of an unchanged dividend of 6 per cent, on ordinary shares, plus a bonus of 6d a share, is recommended in the annual accounts of Brown, Ewing, and Co. Ltd. The net profit of £5,111 compares with £4,541 last year, and is the highest for at least a decade. Gross profit improved by £6,013 to £51,792, but taxation provision was higher by £1,250 at £14,000. The ordinary dividend and bonus and the preference distribution of 5 per cent, will take £3,375. The balance brought forward from last year of £2,918 compares with £4,654 carried forward. Balance sheet items show reserves at £14;674, and capital unchanged at £50,000. Current liabilities include bank at £12,163, and creditors at £837. Two new lists of shares with ceiling prices revised became effective on the Sydney Stock Exchange on Tuesday. It is considered that the Commonwealth authorities have accelerated the rate of releases. The first group was issued three weks ago and the second a week ago. In the four lists «o far released, a total of about 260 ceiling prices have' been raised by 10 per cent. The discriminating time lag between the earlier and later lists lias thus been shortfined.
