£I,OOO IN TATTS
TICKET BOUGHT ON THE THIRTEENTH That thirteen is not always an unlucky number has been proved by the winning of £I,OOO, the fourth prize in the latest Tattersall's. drawing, by two Dunedin residents, Messrs G. G. Payton and.W. H. Saunders, who, for the past two years, have been < taking a ticket in " Tatts " on the thirteenth of every month. The custom arose on the occasion of the birth to Mr and Mrs Payton of a son, when both men purchased a ticket, and they have since continued the practice. The friends took out the ticket under the name. " Two Mugs," its number being 125594. It was usual for his friend to hold the-ticket, said Mr Saunders, and it was not till last night that he knew of his good fortune. He had seen the announcement in the newspapers that "Two Mugs" had won £I,OOO, but he believed they were another syndicate. Production of the ticket, however, convinced him of their own success. He was not in the least excited about the money, which, he remarked, would not be wasted.
Mr Payton, in partnership with his brother, owns the Budget Print in Bath street, and Mr Saunders is the proprietor of the Acme Tyre Company.
