A PEACE CELEBRATION CROP HEAD INJURIES FROM THROWN BOTTLES A Wellington Association message states that Private John Colson, of Trentham military camp, was killed on Wednesday evening, ■ when he was struck by.a railcar on a level crossing near Trentham. An elderly woman, Mrs Beatrice Higgins, was knocked over by a car in Waterloo Quay and killed at 8 p.m. A woman who had been injured in the street was taken into Victoria Hotel to await an ambulance. W4lliam McLean, a waterside worker, while assisting her out of the hotel, collapsed and died. The free' ambulance dealt with 47,accidents yesterday, 30 between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. The majority were head injuries, the result of being struck by bottles. Few were considered serious. The police had a strenuous day, but there were only four arrests, all for drunkenness. Two fatal accidents marred the peace celebrations in Auckland. One of the victims was a truck driver, and the other a cyclist. In addition to motor accidents in the city and suburbs, there were a number of cases of assault, while others suffered lacerations when struck by bottles and glasses thrown among the crowds. As the result of being involved in a collision at Mangere, a push cyclist died later in the hospital. He was Richard Edmund Walsh (39), a married! man,' of Mangere. When a truck and a tram collided on the Great North road, the driver of the truck was killed instantly. He was Nolan Watson, aged 36, and married, of Parnell,. an engineer.
