COMMUTATION OF DEATH SENTENCE
CARRIED. BY ONE VOTE (llec. 9 a.m.) LONDON, August 16. Marshal Petain was condemned to death by 20 votes to 7, says the Exchange Telegraph's Paris correspondent. The decision to ask General de Gaulle not to carry out the death sentence was only gained by 14 votes to 13.
