VICTORY CELEBRATIONS. DUNEDIN CITY COUNCIL V.J.-DAY . CELEBRATIONS HIS WORSHIP THE MAYOR (Mr D. C. Cameron) wishes to advise citizens that ARRANGEMENTS ARE BEING MADE TO CELEBRATE THE SURRENDER OF JAPAN as follows: A CIVIC THANKSGIVING SERVICE will be held in the OCTAGON, with the assistance of Bands and Choirs. Provisions will be made in front of tho Municipal Chambers for Service Personnel who take part in the Parade which is being organised by the Dunedin R.S.A. This Parade will approach by way of Municipal Lane. The Bands are asked to parade in the same manner as on V.E.-Day, and to march to the Octagon for t,he Service, entering via Harrop street. Choir Members, wili also usd Harrop street to reach the Cathedral Steps. Later in tl'.ie day numerous trade processions and bands will be in the streets, and a Special Display will bo given in the Octagon by the Employees of the Roslyn Mills. Two platforms will be provided in the Octagon for the use of any bands or concert parties available. Tho .Otago Trades Council (N.Z. Federation of Labour) is organising a Monster Procession, which will be held 1 on the Second Afternoon. On the Third Day, which is not a public holiday, Thanksgiving Services will be held in the Town Hall for the pupils of the Primary and Secondary Schools The arrangements will be in all respects the same as those made for the V.E.-Day Services. Title WAKARI COMMUNITY CENTRE COMMITTEE has undertaken the organisation of a VICTORY DANCE, which will be held in the TOWN HALL as part, of the celebrations. Further announcements, with details of the times fixed for these functions, will be made as soon as possible. ■ TRAFFIC On the occasion of llhe Civic Thanksgiving Service No Vehicular Traffic or Parking of Vehicles will be permitted in or around the Octagon.
