The Earl of Suffolk was killed in 1941 when a huge bomb which had lain there for many months unexpectedly exploded. It also killed his woman secretary and a va'u driver. The Earl of Suffolk, who was fearless, did valuable research work which won him the George Cross.' He collected an immense amount of data for use by bomb disposal squads.
