BOARD'S PROPOSED WORKS

. The following works are proposed for attention by the Ocean Beach Domain Board during the year:— ' Extension of the St. Glair Esplanade approximately 12 chains with ramp to beach for surf boat. This can be proceeded with only if labour and steel become available during the year. Further levelling and sowing to grass of area at rear of Watea Croquet Club. Paving with asphalt the path leading from St. Kilda to St. Clair. It is hoped to complete the portion from St. Kilda to the tip road. Formation of a road leading to the beach at St. Kilda, together with parking facilities. Construct ponds, foundations for model railway tracks, also concrete tracks for Model Engineering Society. This work is being undertaken at the expense of the society, and the amount of work carried out will depend on the supply of the necessary materials required. The annual report of the board states that the work of maintaining the foredune received close attention during the past year Marram grass planting was carried out on the face and on bare spaces, with the result that the face is now very even with a good growth of grass. Owing to the absence of unfavourable weather, the beach from St. Clair to Lawyer's "Head is in particularly good order. At St. Clair the sand has built up to within seven feet of the Esplanade coping at the steps. The area at the rear of Kettle Park, where the bad scour occurred in 1939. has continued to fill up. FINANCIAL POSITION.

The year commenced with a credit balance of £4,095 5s 9d. The statutory levy for the year amounted to £1,611, an increase of £2l over the previous year. Other receipts, excluding' refunds of wages from the Government, amounted to £640 15s 9d, including tip charges £417 18s, sand sales £25 6s, rents £9B lOs; and interest on deposits £72 10s. The total'amount available for the year was £6,347 Is 6d. Ordinary expenditure for wages of the permanent staff, materials, cartage, and other sundry items, amounted to £1.500 Is sd. The outgoings for subsidised wages amounted to £3,391 6s sd, of which £154 5s Id was borne by the board: A. further amount of £I,OOO was invested in the board's national savings account. The credit balance to carrv forward to the new year is £4,563 6s 6d. Of this amount £2,030 is invested in national savings, and £2,042 10s in the Post Office Savings Bank.
