POTSDAM TAKEN
OLD PRUSSIAN MILITARISM SYMBOL OTHER STRONGHOLDS FALL (E'ec. 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, April 27, Potsdam, the symbol of the old Prussian militarism, has fallen to the Russians. A second order of the flay issued by Marshal Stalin to Marshal Zhukov says: "First White Russian. Front troops; continuing their offensive, occupied to-day the towns of Rathendw, Spandau, and Potsdam, important junctions * of communications and powerful strongholds of German resistance in Central Germany." Rathenow is 35 miles west of Berlin and Potsdam is 17 miles south-west of Berlin.
Marshal Stalin, in a third order of the day, announced the capture of Angermunda, midway between Berlin and Stettin on the Berlin-Stettin railway, and Prenzlau, 30'miles south-west of Stettin.
In a fourth order he stated that Marshal Koniev's forces had captured Wittenberg, 18 miles east of Dessau, on the east bank of the Elbe.
