—Air Passengers.—
Passengers from the north yesterday afternoon were Mr G. Mumby, Mrs A. McSkimming, Mr W. R. Allen (from Auckland), Mr R. A. Gumner, Mr and Mrs M. Pasley, Mr J. Y. Love (from Wellington),- Mr Birch, Mr R. Sinclair "(from Christchurch). Passengers for the north to-day were Mr F. Stafford (for Christchurch), Mrs P. de Perrelle, Mr K. Watts, Mr C. Prevost, Mr J. E. Green, Mr J. Foley, Mr G. Z. Lindley (for Wellington), Mr W. G. McLeod, Mr H. F. King, Mr H. T. Morton (for Auckland) Mr J. G. Young was a passenger for Christchurch by this morning's express. Mrs Potter, of Portobello road, has received advice that her son, James Avon, who gained his wings and commission in Canada, has now been posted to England. The members of the Land Sales Court —Mr Justice Finlay and Mr W. E. Scott (associate member)—left for Christchurch by the express this morning. Mr R. C. Hinton, a member or the United Kingdom Food Mission to Australia and New Zealand, arrived at Auckland from Sydney by flying boat on Thursday. The purpose of his visit is to hold consultations with members of the Government arid various meat firms.
The Rev. W. F. Stent has been appointed a canon by the Bishop of Wellington, the Right Rev. H. St- Barbs Holland, and will be installed during the sessian of the synod in .July. He is vicar of Matterton, and has been vicar of Manaia, Taihape, Pahautanui, and Greytown. Mr and Mrs O. L. Ferens, of Pacific street, Roslyn, have received word that their surviving son, Lieutenant G. C. Ferens, of the 146fch Regiment, Royal Army Corps (Duke of Wellington's), 14th Army, has been wounded for the second time in nine weeks and has bee-n conveyed to a base hospital in India by air ambulance.
A.B. B. Dennison, who has served with the Royal Navy for three andalialf years, is now on furlough. The Mosgiel Presbyterian congregation, under the chairmanship of Rev. R. S. Watson, welcomed home, at" a social evening, its minister (the Rev. A. Macfarlane) and Mrs Maofarlane. The former has been on service overseas. Opportunity was also taken to say farewell to *M.r and Mrs John Brown and to present them with a cheque. Mr John Aitken spoke on behalf of the congregation, and Mrs McPheat on behalf of the ladies. Valedictory speeches were made by the Rev. Hugh Graham,_ Professor Collie, and Captain Rix, while greetings were read from the Rev. L. Jones (Riverton).
