REVIVED LIBERAL PARTY.
TO THE EDITOR. - Sir," —The political situation to-day presents the distressing spectacle of or T ganised Capital, in the form of the National Party, versus organised Labour, in the form of the. Labour Party, with the party supreme, and the country taking a very poor second. Such a course has already taken the country through a period'of economic chaos, followed in recent years by a period of industrial chaos, which suggests that a middle course must be found.' At the last election the people of New Zealand proved by their definite refusal to support Independents that they are party-minded; therefore, it is to be hoped that a party with no other interests than the betterment of the people as a whole will arise in our midst. The time is opportune for a revival of the Liberal Party, which, if given the opportunity, can lead the country on a safe, secure course between the two extremes which exist today. , The performances of our armed forces give adequate proof that New Zealand still produces leaders with the same outstanding courage, love of country, and devotion to duty as possessed by the late Richard John Seddon,' probably the" greatest of New Zealand statesmen. Judging by present-day standards, one would think that statesmen no longer exist, but that is not so, the real truth being that service to party is rated above service to country. Hoping that the next General Election an alternative to the present parties is presented to the people, and that the alternative is a stroug Liberal Party, possessing candidates of sincerity and high ideals.—l am, etc., Liberal. March 5.
