HARBOUR RACE
KIWI CLUB EVENT The Kiwi Amateur Swimming Club hold its annual harbour race over a course of one mile at Vauxhal! on Saturday afternoon. Conditions were unpleasant and the water was very cold | but six of the nine-starters completed tlio course. The winner was Miss Val Brown, an intermediate competitor, who was in receipt of 9mm from the scratch man, D. Reid. Swimming breast stroke most of the wav, she completed the distance in 34min *43sec, to finish about 100yds ahead of Miss Ngaire Lane, the NewZealand women's "back stroke cjiampion, who conceded the winner six minutes. Besides being awarded the Fogg Cup as winner of the rare, Miss Brown also won the Thomas Memorial Rose Bowl for the first woman competitor to finish. Fastest time, carrying with it the William. Lang Memorial Trophy, was returned by D. Reid from scratch, who finished in fourth place in the .good time of 28min 31sec. Results:— Miss V. Brown (9min), 34min 43sec, 1; Miss N. Lane (3min), 30min 18sec, 2; W. Wilkie (7min), 3omin 30sec, 3; D. Reid (scr), 28min 31sec, 4; 1. C.hadwick (lmin), 38min 13sec. o; Mrs F. Deisher (lOmin). 48min, 6. Fastest time: 1) Reid, 28min 31sec.
