W.C.T.U. CONFERENCE
STAND AGAINST GAMBLING The W.C.T.U. conference resumed this morning with .almost all. delegate* present. • Business was principally connected with departmental reports. The antigambling report gave rise to a'lengthy and animated discussion. That'ihe attitude of the union and of individual members should continue to be uncompromisingly opposed to .every-form''of gambling, whether in connection with patriotic efforts or anything else, waa unanimously, felt to be right and necessary.- ■ ■ The legal and parliamentary department’s report, furnished by Miss C. Henderson,“ J.P., of Christchurch, also caused considerable discussion. An invitation w,la received from the New Zealand Alliance to send a member as one of a deputation to the Methodist conference. —Mrs Hiett' was . unanimously chosen. The literature department ' report caused a very interesting conversation. ' The medical and scientific department report, presented by Miss Jamieson, of Palmerston North, showed that import-ant-work was being done in the field of examinations for children in medical temperance. A new textbook had been compiled by Miss Jamieson. A short talk was given' by Mrs Kaspar, world superintendent of , methods, and Dominion vice-president, on the constitution of the W.C.T.U.
