LUFTWAFFE IN DECLINE
231 AIRCRAFT DESTROYED IN 24 HOURS
BIGGEST FIGHTER CLASH OF WAR
(Rec. 11.50 a.rfu) LONDON, Nov. 27. The attrition of the Luftwaffe was advanced a stage further today when, for the second time in 24 hours, a huge group of enemy fighters were sent crashing from the sky after the greatest fighter versus fighter air battle of the war. The davlight battle developed when 500 Thunderbolts and Mustangs poured over North-western Germany on a major-scale strafing sweep. The Luftwaffe for the first time for many months threw up a defensive force of 300 to 400 fighters, and a great battle began. Preliminary Eighth Air Force reports say that the Germans lost at least 98 fighters in combats," and four destroyed on the ground. This followed the serious reverse for the Luftwaffe yesterday, when 129 enemy planes were brought down, making a total of at-least 231 in the past 24 hours. The fighter battles were the highlight of to-day's intensive air operations over Germany.
