INCREASING POPULARITY

Satisfaction at the progress of men's baseball in Dunediii was expressed by The chairman, Mr S H. Harborne, at a meeting of the executive last night. He said that with the possible exception of one of the s:x teams, the players engaged would not have taken part in any sport this summer had baseball not been introduced. The time wns now opportune, he added, to consider the question of interprovincial matches with neighbouring provinces. It was accordingly decided that arrangements be made with a view to playing a representative match against Southland in (February of next year. >lr C. Betts, who represented Australia at hardball on three occasions, was elected sole selector of the Otago team. Another match between Dunediii A.T.C. Spitfires and the Timaru A.T.C. will be p'.ayed in Dunedin during December. The secretary-treasurer, Mr K. J. -Webb, read correspondence from the New Zealand -Softball Council, which stated that men's and women's teams from New Zealand would visit the United States after the war, at a time to coincide with the world series championship, which is the American premier baseball championship. Owing to the fact that matches with visiting" servicemen had interfered to sonic extent with the regular matches on the last playing Saturday, November 18, it was decided "to cancel the results of the games on that date. The position in the championship now is that Sargoods, City United, and Diamonds have all won one game. The draw for Saturday is as follows: Diamonds v. Sargoods, 1 p.m.; Spitfires v. City United, 1.30; Air Force v. Tigers, 3.
