—Air Passengers.— Passengers from the north on Saturday were Mr J. S. Robbie, Mr G. Hogan, Mr E. Gray (from Auckland), Mr J. Abel, Mr K. C. Smith, Mr Stewart, Mr Hooper, Miss J. C. Woodhead (from Wellington), Corporal N. Morris ,Mr T. Tomkins (from Christchurch). North-bound passengers this morning were Mr G. Dale, Mr Murffitt (for Christchurch), Mr R. S. M. Sinclair, Mr J. H. Hofland, Mr W. A. Jenkins, Mr G. G. and Miss Austin (for Wellington), Mr M. Heichs, Mr W. A. McKellar, and Mrs E. Stevens (for Auckland). Inspector J. Carroll, who has been • officer in charge of the Southland police district since March 31, 1943, will retire from the Police Force at the end • of this mouth. Mr W. A. Kiely was elected chairman of the council of the New Zealand Golf Association at the monthly meeting of tho council last week. Mr Kiely succeeds Sir Alexander Roberts, who did not seek re-election. Mr A. R. Sclauders was elected vice-chairman.
Mr W. A." Jenkins, president of the New Zealand Council or Sport, and Mr R. S. M- Sinclair, secretary of the Otago Council of Sport, left for Wellington by air this morning to attend the annual meeting of the New Zealand council on Wednesday. Acting' Wing-commander Noel North, who has been attached to the New Zealand Air Force for over four and a-half years, recently underwent an operation and is convalescing in Dunedin. He intends to resume his medical practice at an early date. Latest registrations at the' Grand Hotel include Mr and Mrs A. Morley (North Auckland), Mr W. Love (Auckland), Mr E. A. Rolfe, Mr J. L. Gillon f Wellington), Mr E. Adams, Mr K. Newdick (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs WW. West, Mr and Mrs H. A. Warsaw (Timaru), Mr L. V. Bryant (Oamaru), Mr and Mrs T; McLaine, Mrs J. C. Prain (Invefcargill). A Press Association cable message from Melbourne states that the Australian Prime Minister, Mr J. Curtin, who has been confined to bed since Tuesday, has gone into 'a private hospital. His medical advisers' consider • that the Prime Minister needs a further complete rest, and he ias entered hospital for that purpose. An Aipia message says that in the Samoan Legislative Council election for two European elected members, the successful candidates were Mr Amando Stowers, a planter, first, and Mr A. G. Smith, a merchant, second. The unsuccessful candidates were Messrs P. McFarland, P. W. Glover, and F. Westbrook.
