ANNIVERSARY VICTORY
RUSSIAN DESIRE MAY BE FULFILLED GERMAN EVACUATION OF HUNGARY IMMINENT ((Rec. 1 p.m.) LONDON, November 3. The (British United Press Moscow correspondent says that prisoners taken on the Hungarian front state that half the German army's motor vehicles have been lost in the recent battles between the Tisa and the Danube. The correspondent thinks the Red army's twin drives towards Budapest from the east and the south are gaining such momentum that the Russians' desire to take Budapest by November 7, the anniversary of the October revolution, may well succeed. Budapest radio broadcast a dramatic appeal, for calm. A woman announcer had iust announced the second act of a play when a male voice broke in addressing the people of Budapest: "Don't listen to rumour. Whether they are bad or good, the people with the best nerves will win the war. The enemy intentionally is spreading goodnews,.which, when unconfirmed, brings despair. The German people's great Fuhrer promised us he won't let us down." , Neuter's Moscow correspondent says a general German withdrawal from Hungary appears imminent. The Germans will try to keep the Hungarian army together for the defence of Austria. The correspondent adds that, despite heavy punishment during the retreat all the way from Voronesh, the Hungarian army is still a valuable ally for the enemy.
Moscow, radio, broadcasting to Germany, stated: " Budapest has become merely a milestone. The Russian troops are already shouting, 'On to Gar-
many.' " To-night's Soviet communique states that the Russians in the Budapest sector captured 100 places, including Bugyi, 14 miles south of Budapest. The Russians in East Prussia, north and south of Goldap, repelled strong tank and infantry attacks and inflicted heavy losses.
