Bronze Eagle broke nip at the start and lost ground. Shadow Maid went away very fast from Hardy Oak and Burt Scott, but at the turn Gold Bar had taken the lead, three lengths ahead of Shadow Mail and Clockwork. Gold Bar went away and had a lead of 12 lengths at the end of the first circuit from Countless, Shadow Maid, Burt Scott, Clockwork, and Haughty. Clockwork, Countless and Pacing Power moved up down the back. With a furlong and a-half to go Gold Bar was still two and a-half lengths in front from Haughty, Countless, and Pacing Power. Haughty led into the straight from Pacing "Power, Integrity, and Bronze Eagle In a great finish, Bronze Eagle raced strongly to win narrowly from Integrity, which also came with a .tremendous run. Pacing Power held on for third money ahead of Countless.
