NATIONAL WAR SAVINGS

COMPETITION WINNERS (Special.) WELLINGTON, July 11. The winners of the national war savings competition, ' A Savings Plan for Viclorv and Peace," were Announced to-night by Mr T. N. Smalhvood, chairman of the National War Savings Committee. They are as follows:—First prize, national savings bond for £IOO, 'Miss P. Lovie, Lower fluU; second prize, £SO bond, Corporal F. A. Bailey, R.N.Z.A.F. (overseas; entry received through P. 0., Wanganui); third prize, £lO bond. Sergeant L. Austin, Riverton.

Mr Smalhvood said that the judging revealed very little margin between the prizewinners, although the placing was unanimous, and it was very pleasing to find a sound conception of the national welfare fls served by personal planned saving. Tho first prize winner, Miss Lovie, had striking".}' illustrated, as she phrased it, " the priceless virtue of thrift," on which in its broadest sense all plans for victory and peace must be built.
