ACCIDENTS AND DEATHS
FATAL STREET ACCIDENT. An inquest was opened this morning at the Hospital into the death of. Edward Stiles, aged 83 years, who was struck by a motor-car on Monday night at the corner ot? Royal Crescent and Ferguson street. The veliicle. was driven by Keith. Kennedy MeCullough, and . was travelling along Ferguson street towards Vauxhall. Evidence of identification ,was-»gi.ven by. William Williams, a waterside worker, who said that Mr Stiles had lived with him at 12 Quarry street, Musselburgh, for the past 12 years. The deceased, said witness, was a retired painter, and though his eyesight was good he was very deaf. He had been. attended by Dr de. Lautour for some time. Witness 6aid that he considered that the corner where the accident had happened was very dangerous, and also that the lighting of the vicinity was poor. Dr Donald Macalistcr, a house .surgeon at the Hospital, said that Stiles was admitted on Monday night at about 11.15 suffering from head injuries. _ His condition improved during the night, hut at 7 o'clock yesterday morning hia death occurred. The inquest proceedings, at winch Sergeant A. Stark represented the police, were adjourned V Mr J. It. Bartholomew, S.M., sine die to enahle a (post mortem examination to be made.
