COAL PRODUCTION
MINISTER MEETS MINE OWNERS (P.A.) INVERCARGILL, July 12. . This morning the Hon. P. C. Webb, Minister of Mines, met representatives of the Southland Coal Owners' Association to discuss means if increasing production. The owners alleged that the reduction in output was due to' absenteeism and short time worked by the men. _ After a lengthy discussion, in which the Minister said the companies were often to blame by not having the proper transport underground to keep the men supplied with boxes, he finally arranged to hold a conference of owners and miners at Ohai to-morrow morning to discuss the whole question. The Minister goes to Ohai and Nightcaps to-night, and will address a meeting in each place.
