AUSTRALIA'S EXPENDITURE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright (Rec. 1.15 p.m.) CANBERRA, July 10. Expenditure on war services by the Federal Government for the financial year 1943-44 was approximately £545,000,000, or £25,000,000 below the Budget estimate. This is shown in figures released by the Commonwealth Treasurer, Mr J. B. Chifley. Revenue provided £168,000,000, and the balance of £377,000,000 came from loans, all borrowed within Australia. War expenditure was £17,000,000 below actual expenditure in the previous financial year. An important item was £110,000,000 in reciprocal lease-lend to the United States forces. This represented an increase on last year's figure. During the year Australia also manufactured munitions and provided "services and supplies for other Governments, involving an expenditure of £57,000,000.
