DUNEDIN ORPHANS ' CLUB

OPENING NIGHT The opening night- of the Duneclin Orphans' Club season was attended by a large number of members and friends, among the guests being visitors from other parts of the Dominion and several merchant seamen. Mr Alfred Wahnsley, an ex-member, and now president of the Invercargill Orphans' Club, was also present. The new president.' Bi-o. N. R. Mclsaac, was in the chair.

A life membership badge was presented, with musical honours, to Bro. Hector McDonald, who has been, one of the leading members of the club's orchestra for many years. The following seniority badges were presented:—-30 years —Bros. H. Henderson and A. B. Smith; 20 years—Bros. H. Archbold, W. E. Earnshaw, F. Goodwin, f„ W. Newall, A. E. Tillcyshort, and H. F. Davie; 10 years —Bros. G. Burnett, J. N. Beckett, C. 13. Begg, J. L. Johnston, J. Lee, George MacDonald, P. L. McKillop, Dr A. Perry, George Stewart, C. V. Smith, W. J. Thomson, R. A. Wilkie, H. D. Campbell, R. N. Kerr, J. Clark, and W. J. Sinton. Seven new members were initiated. An entertaining programme was provided by the following:—Bros. E. Ottrey. A. Clarke, J. J. O'Neill, P. H. Oates, W. H. Cole, A. Walmsley (songs), J. B. McConnell (recitation), R. H. Pettitfc (violin solo), W. J. Sinton and J. R. McDonnell (xylophone duet), W. Brown and W. McPhail (playlet). The club orchestra, under Bro. J. Clark, rendered several items.
