REMAINING OUTSIDE A.F.L. WASHINGTON, May 8. In a bitter letter to Mr William Green, the president of the American Federation of Labour, Mr John L. Lewis, president of the United Mine Workers' Union, withdrew the union's application for reinstatement in the federation. He charged the A.F.L. executives with obeying <New Deal politicians' orders to keep the miners out of the federation. Mr Lewis has been insistent that the United Mine Workers should be taken back on their own terms, whereas Mr Green contended that certain jurisdictional questions should toe settled first.
