SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE METHODS GERMANS' INCREASING DIFFICULTIES (Rec. 8 a.m.) LONDON, May 8. The Germans are encountering increasing difficulty in handling their vast army of foreign workers, who are adopt-

ing less easily detected methods of sabotaging the enemy's war effort. Formerly would-be saboteurs adopted such simple methods as ." misunderstanding orders." Now workers in some oases show a keenness in their job, and gain advancement to more responsible work in which sabotage is more effective. It was noticed recently that aircraft engines were wearing out too quickly, and investigations revealed that cylinder heads were fitted inaccurately. Some 1 workers were executed, but it has been impossible to find out how many aircraft have been given defective engines.' Slowing up of production is another form of sabotage practised by foreign workers who work " out of step," and thereby dislocate the moving_ belt system. Foreign workers are instructed to stay away when their presence is most necessary. " Sickness " is the usual reason given, and workers even take special medicines which make them ill enough to procure a genuine medical certificate. The principal task of French and Belgian workers is to report to the underground movement on the type and importance of the jobs on which their factories are engaged. The Swedish Press has reported that the destruction of several factories in the Berlin area resulted from exact information given to the Allies by foreign workers.
