LILLIPUT STATE
609 CITIZENS IN REVOLT (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 6. Campioue, a Lilliput State of 600 citizens, washed out Mussolini's proud slogan, " Vinceremo " (" We shall conquer "), which was formerly painted in large letters along the lake wall, and replaced it with " Viva Stalin " in luminous paint. ' Campione has passed through three critical crises in the past few months, says Reuter's Zurich correspondent—first, " a teacup putsch," when the people overthrew Fascism and declared Campione an independent State; secondly, a women's revolt, in which -10 housewives tried to hum down the town hall as a protest against the high cost of living; and, thirdly, a campaign for the declaration of war against Switzerland to force Swiss occupation and protection of Campione.
