JAPANESE LOSE HEAVILY

Allied forces have reached their first objectives..in the Kohima battle, which is proceeding satisfactorily, says Reuter's correspondent at Lord Mountbatten's headquarters. The Japanese at lmphal are also taking a big beating, losing many men through bombing and artillery fire. Japanese casualties since March 10 are 5,700, representing only killed which have been counted. The Japanese bury many dead to prevent their casualties being accurately assessed.
