, Vice-regal. _ The Governor-General and Lady Newell will leave Wellington on Monday to pay official visits to Dunedin, Balclutha, Milton, Lawrence,, and Roxburgh.—Press Association. —Ministerial.— The Prime Minister, The Rt. Hero. P. Fraser, left by flying boat from Auckland this morning on the first stage pE his journey to London. He was-accom-panied by Mrs Fraser, the other members of the party being Mr A. D. Mclntosh. Secretary of the War Cabinet and Secretary of External Affairs, and Miss K. G. Jordan, private secretary. Travelling with Mr Fraser, but not, in his official party, were the Hon. D. Wilson, Dr W. A. Riddell (High Commissioner in New Zealand for Canada, who is returning to Ottawa for consultations with his Government, and Messrs E. B. Taylor (assistant Under-Secretary of Labour), H. Butland (represen ting New Zealand employers), and Air F.'C. Allerby (representing the Federation of Labour), who will attend the International Labour Office Conference at Philadelphia. Mr Fraser was farewelled by the mayor (Air J. A. C. Allum), the new High Commissioner for New Zealand in Australia, Air J. G. MrJ. K. Woods, textilo officer and senior" clothing inspector for Otago and Southland, has resigned from the Department of Industries and Commerce. Captain W. S. Eudey, N.Z.M.C, who prior to his enlistment was medical superintendent of the Maniototo. Hospital, has returned on furlough from service in the Pacific, and is at present in Dunedin.

Mr. J. A. Grant has agreed to accept nomination for the mayoralty of the Borough of West Harbour. Mr'Grant was formerly a member of the _ West Harbour Borbugh Council, on which he sat for a period of eight years, i ■ Sub - lieutenant A. A. Je 11 ey, R.N.Z.N.V.R., whose promotion was recently announced,, is the second son of Mr aud Mrs A. E. Jelley, of Mornington. He was formerly, employed in the Lands and Survey and was promiuent in athletic, circles. ,: At a recent meeting of the Local Government Loans Board it was announced that Mr H. J. Miller, who has been secretary of the board for tha past five years, was relinquishing his position op his promotion as chief clerk tn the Treasury Department.' Mr N.R. Davis was appointed to succeed Mr Miller. Mr Davis joined the Public Service as a cadet in the National Provident and Friendly Societies Department in 1926, transferring to the Treasury in 1935. He holds the degree of bachelor of commerce, having graduated from Victoria University College in 1935. He has been associated with local government work in all its aspects since 1935, and for some time has served on the staff of the Loans Board.

Exceptional flying ability and devotion to duty have earned for two New Zealand pilots serving.in the European zone the award of the D.F-.C. They are Squadr6n-loader Richard Wehb, formerly of Levin (wife, Mrs F. E. M. Webb, of Opotiki); Warrant-officer George Harold Frederick Hutchison (mother, Mrs R. M. Crnickshank. of Woolltoii, Christchurch). Mrs A. Mercier, formerly of Dunedin, and now of Crinau street, Invercargill, has received advice that her son, Pilotofficer J. D. Mercier, has been promoted to flying-officer. A Melbourne P.A. message states that the consecration of Monsignor P. F. Lyons, bishop-elect of Christchurch, will take place in St. Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne, on July 2. Archbishop Mannix will be the consecrating prelate. a
