Advice has been . received thai* Privates A. A. Ram-lings, M. T. Scale, F. A. Patridge, J. G. Horn, and L. W. Barnett, who were prisoners of war in Italy, have been transferred to Germany. Mr A. McKenzie, Director of Education in Western Samoa, and a member of the Legislative Council there, is visiting fnvercargill, his home town, on furlough. Mr McKenzie was bora 'at liivercargill and he received his education at Dunedin, attending the Dunedin Training College and Otago University. He has been in charge of the» administration of education on various island groups during the last 20 years, and he has held his present position for seven years. A British Official Wireless message reports that the name of Vice-Adiniral R. H; C. Halifax, C. 8., appears among a list of 256 naval casualties announced yesterday. He commanded H.M.S. Rodi iiiey from 1936 to 1938, and later becama Rear-Admiral commanding ■ the Horaa Fleet destroyed. ' - A Cairo message states that General Sir Bernard Paget, the new Comman-deMii-Chief in the Middle East, has, arrived, and.has taken over from General Sir Henry Maitland Wilson.—British. Official Wireless. Sir Anthony George, the 'British Consul-General in Boston, was killed when he fell from an hotel window.
